Raymond James Stadium
My travels last week took me to Tampa and a number of interesting visits to fields/stadiums. The first stop, Raymond James Stadium, home of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and the Outback Bowl. Our tour guide, Wayne Ward, was great and described life at the stadium. This facility is home to the University of South Florida Bulls as well. The turf is Celebration Bermudagrass overseeded with Rye. AS you can see in the first photo - the famous buccaneer ship. The second, a field view showing the old Outback Bowl logos.

Super Bowl XLV is only 2 weeks away, and the NFC facility for the 2012 Super Bowl was inflated last week at the University of Indianapolis. Here are three photos of the inflated "bubble." The first 2 photos are right next to the bubble where I took the photo linked on the first post. The final photo was from the LF of the baseball field looking toward the bubble. I will post photos from the inside of the facility soon.

RPR - Innovative Award Winner at STMA
My travels took me to a couple locations this past week. Look for many posts and photos early this week! My first stop is at the STMA Trade Show with Barenbrug Seed. Barenbrug was awarded STMA's Innovative Award this past week for their work on RPR - Regenerating Perennial Ryegrass. The photo above shows the midwest rep, Roger Crenshaw, standing next to the placard on the trade show floor.
J&D Turf has access to this product and installed this turfgrass on numerous fields this past fall. Two of those sites were: Butler University softball and Olantangy, OH varsity baseball.

Wabash Baseball
What a better way to spend a cold and snowy January day? Visit the newest baseball field in Indiana! My travels on Thursday took me to Wabash College, home of the Little Giants. Head Coach Cory Stevens will have a top notch sand based field to play on in 2011. The bluegrass sod is taking root, and the Dura Edge Classic infield mix from the Natural Sand Company is in place. Check back for more updates as the season opener approaches!

Super Bowl Practice Facility
As many of you know, the NFC will practice at the University of Indianapolis for the 2012 Super Bowl in Indianapolis. So, the SmartTurf Blog will follow along as the site is constructed. The photo above shows the site yesterday as the "bubble" is about to be inflated. The stainless steel door will be a point of entry to the bubble, when inflated.
